Cats and Dogs

Following on from yesterday’s post which name-checked the splendid Fat Cat pub in Norwich, I felt that I should point out that we have an equally splendid Fat Cat pub in Sheffield.

Moreover Sheffield boasts a fat dog, courtesy of the talented and prolific artist known as coLor. This is a very portly pooch!08-11-13-1

Factory Settings

Here is a selection of images from this morning’s visit to a local derelict factory site. There are a number of new pieces that have appeared since I was last here a few weeks ago.

Colloquix has been busy…

Every time I have visited this site I have taken several photos of this Clem Alice piece. There is something about this specific stairwell and the placing of the windows that makes the light vary a great deal so the piece never looks the same and today it was really glowing …

Subway Art

I spent last weekend in Norwich visiting family and friends and came across a colourful subway as I was wandering around the city. The lights in the subway made it quite difficult to get a good picture and the colours look far more vibrant in real life. Nevertheless, these are some impressive pieces of work as I’m sure you will agree and there’s more to come!

Something Old, Something New

Yesterday I took the opportunity to revisit one of my favourite sites to catch up on any new work that has appeared. I last visited just over a year ago when access was far easier but I somehow managed to squeeze myself through the small opening on one side of the otherwise locked down building.

This collaboration between Phlegm and Rocket01 was one of the earliest pieces to appear and has long been a favourite of mine. Unfortunately the years have taken their toll and the piece is starting to deteriorate but thankfully no one has damaged it in any way.

This stunning piece by Booms is more recent but has been been in place for the past year or so, as has the graffiti-framed Prometheus piece by coLor.

I hadn’t seen this Booms / coLor collaboration before, really impressive!22-08-13-8

The Mila K piece is also new to me and there are also examples of work by Colloquix, Tekonta Secta and Green.

I spotted this mural from the top floor but couldn’t work out how to get closer to it at ground level, so the artist remains a mystery.

This sign puzzled me; how can you expect anyone to leave instantly. Surely it takes at least a minute or so to vacate the building or did they have an on-site teleport available?

Anyway, never mind the klaxons, have a listen to this…

Not Enough Hours in the Day

Trying to keep up with the sheer volume of new work across the city is virtually impossible. There is such a range of material that it would be a full time job to capture everything and even then I’m sure I would miss plenty.

Here is a snapshot of the variety that I have come across in the past week or so; the Burning Candy mural (image 8) is fairly old but all the other pieces are very recent. There are still plenty of other locations to visit on my ‘to do’ list!
